The competition terrain is diverse and hilly which is typical of the Kainuu region. The majority of the terrain is solid ground. The terrain ranges from craggy hillsides with small features to varied forests and vegetation. The greatest variations in altitude are between 40-80 metres. There are also easier and more plane terrains nearby the Competition Centre, and there are small paths and tracks etc. for less demanding categories.

The competition tracks are planned so that the best parts of the terrain will be offered for all the competition categories. The competition terrain in Jormua-Leihu area offers challenges in terms of slopes, route selection and precise navigation. The track masters of the competition have previous experience from Kainuu Orienteering Week 2008 and 2012 and also from other competitions.

The competition maps are designed by a professional mapping company, Mapline Oy (e.g. WOC2013 official mapping company).
